Garden of Isis

It is when you think that nature is preparing for hibernation that explodes lush proving that its spirit is not deadly, but a continuous perpetuation.
That nature is awakening to the morning dew, is caressed by the shy sun, with sunsets that mark a new day, new blooms that bloom and wither as many that after wearing their best “dress”.

It is not difficult to imagine that in a lot of green, with wise waiting at the right time ready to be born a new nuance to embarrass the other.

In Ischia there where you do not expect, the wind carrying the breeze with the scent of flowers, intense, before the eyes of the lucky visitors are filled with beauty. They are lucky because they will be welcomed into a private garden, an owner of the treasure, which does not reveal the name, proud of his creation as discreet.

 After crossing the entrance, you enter another dimension, captured by a small oasis of water in which are reflected vain Lotuses and lilies, while white pigeons gather in flight at the sound of a bell. Only the sound of a few cars in the race back to reality.
We understand immediately because this garden of the soul, later renamed of  Isis, pay homage to the goddess and the procession that took place in Egypt, the first full moon after the Spring Equinox, to celebrate the “resurrection” and its fertility.
The look runs fast and is kidnapped by shapes and shades of a bouquet of species arranged in an ordered chaos. There, where they were encouraged, rare and antique roses climbing along the lush strings that embrace our walk, while others by the thick petals, soft as the bearing of the powder, they are not domesticated and put to death in a flowerbed.
It is a temptation to nose here and there, breathe deeply, to steal the fragrances that evoke sometimes fruity sensations, myrrh or others penetrating aroma that you are trying to decipher.
The Rose is the queen of the intimacy of this sumptuous green handkerchief that keeps 180 varieties, such as the Gloire de Dijon, the Crimson Glory, Aloha Sombreuil and Abraham Darby, to the delight of fans. Do not miss even Baroness de Rothschild, President Herbert Hoover, Königin von Dänemark and Anna Pavlova: every name tells a story and often reminiscent of the high-sounding character to whom was dedicated.
The roses come from Hamburg, Spain, France, Italy and America. They have been chosen with care, expectations and ferried to the island as soon as possible, even during the winter. So if there are those who in past years has transported cement and perpetrated abuse, someone wearing the clothes of a modern Captain Cook, planted in Ischia a bit of the world.
In the Garden of Isis, geometry, construction and proportion give way to harmonious rhythm alternating these wonders of nature, spontaneously, without much desire. Sitting to contemplate about 600 species of Jasmine, Hibiscus, Calle, Epiphyllum, Geranium, Brugmansia arborea and Honeysuckle, feel the garden a furnished living room and never get tired of getting lost in the peace of the place, as has always taught the Eastern tradition.
Philosophy, botany and mysticism become the ideal fertilizer with which to feed the soul of the Garden of Isis. Petal by petal is also discovered its owner, through flights of fancy that stimulates our curiosity with reflections and learned quotations, interesting references that abound in religion, as the myths and fables. From the expression of St. Francesco as metaphor of blossoming that radiates all around (“It is need to bloom where God has planted”), the importance of scent as vital essence, it is time to mention the lilies and the abduction of Persephone, that is the legend that best embodies the arrival of winter and the renewal of Spring. But we also speak of the sacred flowers such as lotus, water resistant to such an extent as not to be affected even by the mud, and of course the beloved roses that we find in Christian litanies, in literature, in art, even in the fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast not to push us so far, even in the arms of the municipality of Forio.
The reflection goes beyond the scientific names that the owner knows, to our envy, inside out, showing us that there is no need to be landscape architects to create a private oasis as it was in the ancient manor homes.
Wondering what is beauty or perfection is pointless. «Beauty is not a point of arrival or departure - we remind - is the search for our essence. The garden is within us».
It goes without saying that it is pleasant to think, not to say desirable that as many behind private gates, seemingly anonymous, there is a lot of green cultivated with love, just waiting to be discovered and contemplated.
