Celario Montecito Crateca
Description of the trail
In this trail is along a stretch of the ancient Via Crateca, named by local farmers “via dei carri”. Located in the resort town of Fango in Lacco Ameno (ancient rural village and in the past important site for the development of the spa island), and this being an area of natural and man-made collection of mud (used in thermal industry), the “via dei carri” put in communication the places of extraction of alum (Bianchetto and Montecito) with processing areas (Piazza del “La Pera” or “Caulare”). Starting from the woods of Celario, chestnut on the top of Casamicciola and continue on the path crossing a mule, “via dei carri” which in historical times was used to transport the alunite from the mining area to the processing and then to port of Casamicciola. The trail is bordered by typical dry walls (“the parracine”), obtained with the rocks of the green tuff of Pizzone. You get up to one of the points of extraction of alunite: Monte Cito, fumarolic field which offers a beautiful view of the Gulf of Naples. Here is also a characteristic flora and in particular the cyperus polystachyus (papyrus fumaroles). The tour ends with a path (today for most of the driveway) bordered by wild roses, valeriane, broom, myrtle, heather and mastic and arrives in the vineyards of the farmhouse Crateca.
