Santa Restituta Museum
The Museum owes its birth and development to the rector of the church, Don Pietro Monti. The Museum is well worth a visit is a privilege which only a few other museums in the world can boast: not inanimate and icy place of collection of relics from the past, but direct evidence of life and culture in Ischia by the Greeks to the early Christians. The museum, in fact, was built on the same spot of the ancient settlements. In the early 50s, in repairing the chapel of Santa Restituta, we had the pleasant surprise of finding the crypt under the floor with many early Christian tombs. On the site, among other things, was also found a clay lamp with bunch of grapes of the VI-VII century. A.D. The archaeologists discovered the improvised encouraged to continue the excavation. After a while we had to confront a Christian burial place around the basilica housed in a disused cistern from the Roman era. The continued hard work, going from surprise to surprise, until it was brought to light a multitude of tombs built according to the customs Phoenician and Punic, or as the Greek-roman.
Currently, the museum contains numerous archaeological finds of various periods found not only in Lacco Ameno - places to live in the ancient city of Pithecusa - but on the whole island.
Near the Christian cemetery was located even if the industrial area were fabricated and baking the famous vases exported throughout the Mediterranean Sea.

Currently the excavations of Santa Restituta are closed for renovation.
