2003- India
Un viaggio in autostrada da Roma a Napoli a metà gennaio 2003 è il momento in cui scatta in Pascal Vicedomini la molla di un evento internazionale di cinema e musica da organizzare a Ischia. Le numerose sollecitazioni avute in passato dagli amici “ischitani” Antonio Baldi, Gaetano Altieri e Nicola D’Abundo trovavano finalmente lo spazio necessario nell’immaginazione del produttore napoletano grazie all’invito decisivo di Vanni Fondi. Ed è proprio il giornalista del Corriere del Mezzogiorno ad avvicinare Pascal alla famiglia Carriero desiderosa di rilanciare l’immagine internazionale dell’ Albergo Regina Isabella e dell’Isola d’Ischia tutta.
Il brand stesso del Festival viene impostato con queste caratteristiche: la scarsa popolarità planetaria del brand Ischia richiede un abbinamento che garantisse maggior appeal. Nasce cosi l’Ischia Global Film & Music Fest che viene subito recepito da Giancarlo, Antonella e Silvana Carriero come un percorso fondamentale per riposizionare la propria struttura nella dimensione in cui l’aveva immaginata negli anni ‘50 il tycoon Angelo Rizzoli.
Una verifica sul territorio denota la scarsa disponibilità a rischiare da parte degli imprenditori locali cosi della costituenda associazione senza scopo di lucro - Accademia Internazionale Arte Ischia - entrano a far parte solo Giancarlo ed Antonella Carriero ed il giornalista Fondi. Vicedomini, fondatore e produttore dell’evento, avrebbe da subito agito dall’esterno onde evitare confusione con la sua “prima” creatura: Capri, Hollywood – The International Film Festival (1995).
Ulteriori apporti dall’esterno sarebbero stati garantiti dalla contessa Marina Cicogna (habitue’ dell’Isola negli anni d’oro del “Cummenda”), Franco Nero (per il suo comprovato appeal internazionale e Tony Renis la cui leggenda aveva visto gli arbori proprio a Lacco Ameno grazie all’affetto del grande Rizzoli che “Mr Quando Quando” condivideva con Walter Chiari.
E’ proprio Tony Renis il primo personaggio a “mettere la faccia” al fianco di Vicedomini per il lancio della manifestazione che avviene sull’Isola il giorno di Pasquetta e successivamente al Festival di Cannes con una conferenza stampa memorabile ricca di star nello spazio di Italia Cinema (ex braccio operativo del Mibac). Tra i personaggi di maggior spicco ecco Adrien Brody, fresco dell’Oscar per The Pianist di Roman Polanski. C’è poi Armand Assante, già paladino di Capri, Hollywood nel jet-set, E il regista indiano Shekhar Kapur in qualità di ambasciatore di Bollywood a cui sarebbe stata dedicata la prima edizione del Global Fest.
Unica istituzione italiana presente e determinata a sostenere l’evento che, come Capri Hollywood nasceva tra le perplessità ed il malumore di alcuni “conservatori” del cinema italiano, l’amministratore delegato dell’Istituto Luce Luciano Sovena. A lui si deve un primo sostegno di Ischia Global sotto formula di Convention per esercenti del Luce cosi come l’arrivo di due star di prima grandezza nel panorama internazionale: il leggendario attore americano Dennis Hopper, eletto padrino del festival, e lo scavezzacollo belga Jean Claude Van Damme, che tira ogni sera tardi al night Valentino di Ischia Porto. I due artisti, accompagnati dal produttore francese Philippe Martinez esalteranno subito la capacità di attrazione spontanea dell’evento verso le star. E per la prima edizione c’è subito una parata di artisti a decretare il successo dell’happening a cominciare da Stefania Sandrelli madrina ufficiale e prima attrice a ricevere il Legend Award di Ischia. C’è poi il premio Oscar F. Murray Abraham a ricordarci quanto sia forte il rapporto tra grande schermo e musica (il suo Salieri nell’Amadeus di Milos Forman era già nella storia da un bel po). C’è Louis J. Horvitz, super regista della notte degli Oscar; c’è Andrea Bocelli che ritirerà il William Walton Music Award dalla mani di Lady Susanna Walton e si esibirà al pianoforte sulla spiaggia del Regina Isabella in onore di Hopper. Ci sono Bungaro, Veruska e Leonardo De Amicis reduci dal Sanremo Festival di Tony Renis. E ancora ci sono Neri Marcorè e Vanessa Incontrada premiati per il cuore altrove di Pupi Avati (rappresentato dal fratello produttore Antonio) e a dar voce al cinema indiano Kabir Bedi ed alcuni produttori accolti dal regista Italo Spinelli. C’è Stefania Sandrelli a ritirare il primo Ischia Legend Award della storia; c’è Anita Ekberg, icona di Fellini ne La dolce Vita a ricordarci che il produttore napoletano Peppino D’Amico aveva permesso al geniale “maestro romagnolo” di realizzare la pellicola. C’è Ida Di Benedetto a rappresentare la creatività di Napoli. C’è Peter Greenaway premiato da Nicola Carraro nel mito di suo nonno Angelo Rizzoli e ci sono anche due giovani allievi dell’Accademia d’Arte drammatica Silvio D’Amico a cui Marina Cicogna consegna una borsa di studio in ricordo della sua figlioccia Isabella Rizzoli scomparse prematuramente suicida. E c’è infine il regista scozzese Mick Davis a presentare in anteprima il suo imminente lavoro “Modigliani” con Andy Garcia ed Elsa Zylberstein.
Madrine della prima edizione due belle giovani attrici Anna Falchi e la russa Yulia Mayarchuck.
Tra le serate indimenticabili del primo Ischia Global Fest, quella a Sant’Angelo sulla terrazza del Belvedere ospiti di Alessandra Calise.
La manifestazione era stata inaugurata domenica...luglio all’indomani del Premio Ischia con il suo presidente Biagio Agnes perplesso per la quasi concomitanza dei due eventi. Eppure era nata una nuova stella l’Ischia Global Film & Music Fest.

2004- Cina
La manifestazione viene presentata ancora a Cannes da Marina Cicogna e dal regista scozzese Mick Davis artefice del film “Modigliani” con Andy Garcia che vedeva coinvolto nel progetto l’Istituto Luce. Sovena ribadisce il sostegno al Festival che viene dedicato alla Cina. Il D.G. Cinema del Mibac Gaetano Blandini da’ la sua benedizione al nuoveo evento.
Come per la prima edizione, il museo di Villa Arbusto a Lacco Ameno ospita una mostra fotografica e di manifesti del cinema cinese, paese ospite dell’anno. Ad inaugurarla Manuela Arcuri con Giancarlo Carriero. Philippe Martinez fa il suo ritorno a Ischia con il vp dell’Icm Talent Jack Gilardi accompagnato stavolta dalla superstella Val Kilmer. L’attore americano, reduce dal set africano dell’Alexander di Oliver Stone giunge sull’Isola con i due figli ed è subito amore con le bellezze del litorale flegreo. Ma c’è un altro giovanotto a fare sognare le ragazze: è scozzese si chiama Gerard Butler detto Gerry di li a breve sarebbe divenuto popolare al fianco di Angelina Jolie in Tomb Rider. Le ragazze stravedono per lui. I cultori del grande cinema sono altresi’ attratti dal geniale italoamericano Stanley Tucci, da Carlo Verdone, dalla regina della commedia Usa Nancy Meyers che socializza con Luca Barbareschi, e dalla regista Julie Taymor che insieme al compagno compositore Elliot Goldhental (Oscar per la colonna sonora di Frida) avrebbero stretto un forte sodalizio con Dante Ferretti e Francesca Lo Schiavo in attesa dell’uscita di The Aviator (premiato a Febbraio 2005 con l’Oscar). Tra gli altri amici del cinema italiano ci sono tre degli attori che Mel Gibson ha voluto nel suo discusso film La Passione di Cristo (Rosalinda Celentano, Mattia Sbragia e Luca Lionello) con loro il grande maestro John Debny autore delle musiche per il discusso film. E ancora Manuuel De Sica, Fred Bongusto, Ida Di Benedetto e poi Lina Sastri e Leopoldo Mastelloni che avrebbero animato la bella serata al bagno Teresa di Forio organizzata da Massimo Bottiglieri.
Serata finale con i fuochi d’artificio con il produttore premio Oscar per Chicago Martty Richard e soprattutto I Blues Brothers artefici di un concerto memorabile di cui sono parte attiva anche Gerry Butler e il regista Mick Davis che per riparlare del Modigliani aveva portato con se la modella e attrice Eva Herzigova. E ancora il regista polacco Kristoph Zanussi, la bella Manuela Arcuri nella veste di “Madrina” e dulcis in fundo Enrico Lucherini premiato per la sua straordinaria carriera da Press Agent nel mito di Ischia che aveva imparato ad amare grazie a Luchino Visconti.

2005-Russia
È l’anno della consacrazione del festival che viene presentato a Mosca da Pascal Vicedomini e Giancarlo Carriero. A rappresentare il cinema sovietico sull’isola verde arrivera’ il presidente del Mosfilm Karen Shaknazarov seguito da Andrei Konchalovky con la moglie attrice Julia e dalla “madrina del festival” Natasha Stephanenko.
Ma è Hollywood a farla da padrona con la partecipazione di grandi maestri vincitori o semplicemente candidati all’Oscar: Sir Alan Parker, Norman Jewison, Neil Jordan. Taylor Hackford ed il produttore di Quentin Tarantino, Lawrence Bender.
Ed ecco spuntare dal mare anche Francis Ford Coppola: il leggendario autore italoamericano vuole proporre il suo prossimo film a Joseph Fiennes ed è così che il giovanotto inglese dopo aver presentato col maestro Michael Radford e il produttore Barry Navidi (premiato da Panariello al Mezzatorre) il recente lavoro Il mercante di Venezia (realizzato con Al Pacino), si concede ad una cena con Coppola che fa degustare i suoi celebri vini anche al maitre Enzo Pilato ed al straordinario personale del Regina Isabella.
Analoga emozione la desterà la proiezione di Jesus Christ Superstar sul grande schermo del Regina Isabella (con Jewison visibilmente commosso) e la premiazione del leggendario Jewison.
Molta attenzione è destata anche dalla presenza di Gerard Butler e d Raoul Bova per i quali i fan si affollano all’esterno dell’Albergo di Lacco Ameno.
Grandi eventi caratterizzano “happening a cominciare da quello a Villa Costa dai D’Abundo dove Peppino di Capri incontro Hackford, Nicola Giuliano riceve un premio da Gina Gershon, Mimmo Calopresti da Jeremy Thomas.
Tra le altre presenze più significative della terza edizione gli anglo-sassone Blenda Blethlyn e la costumista multi-Oscar Sandy Powell. Con loro gli italiani Franco Nero colfilgio carlo Gabriel, Roberto Faenza con Elda Ferri, Antonietta De Lillo, Enzo De Caro, Enrico Lo Verso, Maurizio Nichetti, Fabrizio, Gifuni, Vincenzo Salemme, Manuela Arcuri ed il povero Angelo Infanti.
E poi le giovani e belle Moran Atias e Andrea Osvart. E per la musica il premio Oscar Jan Kaczmarek e il neozelandese Graeme Revell che insieme a Tony Renis rilanciano il Simposio Internazionale della musica da Film.

2006- Germania
Nell’anno del trionfo degli Azzurri ai mondiali di Calcio, la manifestazione è dedicata alla Germania. A presentarla a Monaco di Baviera con Pascal Vicedomini volano Franco Nero e dall’Assessore regionale al Turismo della Campania Marco Di Lello. A rappresentare la Germania a Ischia sono, invece: i registi Dany Levy, Marc Rothmund e gli attori Diane Kruger, Thomas Kretschmann e Julia Jentesch.
È un altro momento magico per Ischia in quanto fa suo ingresso al Global fest lo sceneggiatore, produttore e regista Paul Haggis (fresco degli Oscar per Crash). Con lui ecco Fisher Stevens in compagnia della divina Naomi Watts e del prossimo marito di lei Liev Schriber. Sono loro a dar vita al primo scandalo del festival tenuto lontano dai paparazzi; il bagno nudi a mezzanotte al termine della cena al Mezzatorre.
E ancora ecco John Landis con sua moglie Deborah festeggiato sulla spiaggia con la proiezione speciale del suo capolavoro The Blues Brothers e successivamente premiato da Christian De Sica, alla sua prima esperienza al Global. Visti anche Rupert Friend scorazzare a piedi per Ischia con la madre. E ancora, Matthew Modine a dividersi tra la grinta di Serena Autieri, madrina del Festival e la dolcezza di Gina Gershon. E poi ecco, nuovamente Terry Gilliam e Michael Radford insieme a John Irvin, a Mchael Caton Jones e Hugh Dancy, alla svedese Camilla Sjoberg e al coreografo americano Daniel Ezralow.
Tra gli italiani è anche la prima volta di Marco Risi, Silvo Orlando, Nicolas Vaporidis (fresco del trionfo ai box office di Notte prima degli esami), Adriano Giannini, Olivia Magnani, Giacomo Rizzo, Stefano Veneruso, dello scenografo Enrico Job insieme a sua moglie Lina Wertmuller, della costumista Francesca Lidia Sartori e di un giovane e ancora sconosciuto talento “made” in Napoli: Alessandro Siani.
E anche il segmento musicale volge ad una svolta dove insieme a Ron, Andrea Mingardi e al compositore anglo-toscano Dario Marianelli (che due anni dopo avrebbe vinto l’Oscar) arrivano ai Giardini di Poseidon per la festa di Massimo Bottiglieri: il leggendario compositore Burt Bacharach che si esibisce togliendo il fiato ai presenti. E l’altrettanto mitico attore e cantante caraibico Harry Belafonte la cui premiazione avverrà nella serata finale della manifestazione sulla spiaggia dei Maronti.
E ancora si rivedono Yulia Mayarchuck e Moran Atias con loro.

2007- Brasile
E’ un anno senza precedenti: con un giorno di anticipo sul previsto si presentano la madrina Clotilde Courau il nuovo chairman Paul Haggis, il messicano Alfonso Cuaron e le americane Sheryl Crow e Laura Dern. Il giorno dopo la baia si illumina d’immenso con l’arrivo di Sir Ben Kinglsey, dell’attrice Hilary Swank (accompagnata da John Campisi e dal supermanager delle superdive di Hollywood, Jason Weinberg).
Il festival dedicato al Brasile inizia all’insegna delle forti emozioni musicali con il gala in onore di Luciano Pavarotti che, presente a Piazza delle Alghe la moglie Nicoletta Mantovani, in collegamento dalla casa di Pesaro parla per l’ultima volta dal vivo con un gruppo di amici-fan composto da Laura Pausini, Andrea Bocelli, dai produttori musicali Tony Renis e David Foster e dell’ingegnere del suono Humberto Gatica. Il collegamento da Piazza delle Alghe è tra quelli che non si dimenticano: la conversazione è nonostante tutto divertente. Sono tutti formalmente in ginocchio davanti al mitico Big Luciano che morirà qualche mese dopo.
Ad Inaugurare il festival era stato il leggendario cantante spagnolo Julio Iglesias con un bellissimo concerto al Negombo organizzato da Tonino e Gianni Esposito. Ma un altro grande musicista avrebbe conquistato la ribalta del festival: l’argentino Gustavo Santolalla (due Premi Oscar) con i Bajofondo Tango Club in concerto ai Giardini di Poseidon davanti al suo regista di riferimento: il messicano Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu insieme all’amico sodale Alfonso Cuaron.
All’Hotel San Montano, l’imprenditore Antonio Baldi aveva inaugurato il ciclo delle serate di gala con la musica di Andrea Mingardi ma è al Regina Isabella che Hilary Swank e la Pausini si scatenano in balli e canti con Haggis e Renis.
Tra le new-entry nella “grande famiglia” di Ischia Global: il leggendario regista Oliver Stone, i premi Oscar Bille August, William Monahan e Bobby Moresco con Stephen Frears (premiato al Mezzatorre dal Minsitro dei Beni Culturali Francesco Rutelli) e gli attori Ioan Gruffud e Alice Evans. E poi gli italiani Giuseppe Tornatore (in corsa per l’Oscar con La Sconosciuta), Emanuele Crialese (reduce dalla nomination), Michele Placido (con Pietro Sermonti ed Anna Vale) e le attrici Laura Morante e Martina Stella insieme a Raoul Bova, Franco Nero, Claudia Gerini, Federico Zampaglione e al compositore Louis E. Bacalov, premio Oscar per la colonna sonora de Il Postino di Troisi
Tra i produttori con l’italiano Fabrizio Mosca viene premiato l’americano Mark Canton per “300”: sarà l’inizio di una nuova grande collaborazione così come era avvenuto l’anno prima con Paul Haggis.

2008- Giappone
Paese ospite dell’anno è il Giappone con la dolce attrice nippo-italiana Valentina Izumi e la sceneggiatrice (candidata all’Oscar con Eastwood) Iris Yamashita e la produttrice Yukie Kito a far da madrine. La manifestazione inizia all’insegna della gioventù con Silvio Muccino ed l’americano Jason Lewis, divo di Sex and the City.
Ad affascinare il pubblico ed i media ecco arrivare i fivi Matt Dillon, Claire Danes (con il prossimo marito Hugh Dancy), Kim Cattral, Rosario Dawson, Gael Garcia Bernal ed il brasiliano Rodrigo Santoro; con loro la rivelazione italiana dell’anno Isabella Ragonese.
Il Social Cinema Forum è ricco di presenze significative come quella dello sceneggiatore di Schindler’s List, Steven Zaillian, dell’attrice Vanessa Redgrave premiata dal presidente della Campania davanti ai figli Joely Richardson e Carlo Gabriel Nero.
Il decano dei manager di Hollywood, l’elegantissimo Ed Limato fa impazzire il ricevimento del Regina Isabella intrattenendo una fitta corrispondenza con Tonia Ferrigno per verificare quanto fosse effettivamente grande la suite che gli sarebbe stata assegnata. All’arrivo a Ischia, però, Limato capitola e di fronte alla calda accoglienza si concede con generosità sia al gran gala al Parco Terme di Castiglione dove viene premiato da Franco Nero e Rosario Dawson insieme a Paul Haggis e all’allievo Jason Weinberg. Sia ai Giardini di Poseidon dove si esibiscono i Matia Bazar. Una serata straordinaria in cui Giancarlo Giannini riceve dal nuovo ministro della Cultura Bondi l’Ischia Legend Award.
E un altro anno memorabile con tantissimi beniamini accolti nelle più belle location dell’Isola. Così, a Villa Giulia vengono premiati il piccolo grande attore Freddie Highmore che fino a pochi giorni prima aveva giocato sull’ascensore del veliero piu alto del mondo del tycoon James Clark venuto nel golfo a trovare l’amico produttore Fisher Stevens. E Joaquin Cortes che ritira dalle mani della Wertmller il primo Ischia Enrico Jos Art Award in memoria del compianto scenografo
Tra gli altri attori visti per la prima volta sull’isola gli americani Terrence Howard che impara a cantare in napoletano col maestro Tony Renis ed Agostino Penna; lo svedese big del cinema d’azione Dolph Lundgren che chiude con un suo film cult. Tra gli italiani, invece: Giuliano Gemma e Gigi Proietti festeggiano la carriera; Laura Morante socializza con Treat Williams; le signorine del cinema Vanessa Hassler, Michela Quattrociocche (che debutta in pubblico col futuro marito il calciatore Aquilani), i musicisti Andrea Griminelli, Maria Nazionale, e la Nuova Compagnia Canto Popolare.
E infine, tra gli amici del festival visti sull’Isola: Valentino e Giammetti in visita da Marina Cicogna; Diego Della Valle che socializza con Michael Radford, il produttore Harvey Weinstein giunto per premiare Ryan Kavanaugh. Nicoletta Mantovani per fare altrettanto con l’amica e collega produttrice inglese Trudie Styler; la superstella del Tv Usa E!, Giuliana De Pandi presenta agli amici italiani e americani genitori (originari di Napoli) ed il futuro marito Bill Rancic (ex-pupillo tv del miliardario Donald Trump).

2009- Sud Africa
Trudie Styler mantiene la promessa di portare suo marito Sting e la sera dell’apertura, accompagnati da Elew (al secolo Eric Lewis) e Andrea Mingardi e spalleggiato da Zucchero e Andrea Bocelli, il pungiglione del rock dà vita a una memorabile jam-session: il momento di spettacolo più alto della storia del Festival.
Il giorno dopo Trudie riceve le chiavi di Forio a casa D’Abundo davanti al chairman della Interscope Geffen Jimmy Iovine, originario di Ischia. Il celebre tycoon della musica mondiale sarà a sua volta premiato la sera successiva da Tony Renis e Aurelio De Laurentiis al Mezzatorre. Una serata speciale con Guido Lembo ad animare la scena e Gina Gershon e Luke Wood a fare il verso a Prince con un memorabile ‘Purple Rain’.
Tra gli ospiti della serata c’e’ anche il fenomenale attore austriaco Christoph Waltz che dopo essere stato premiato a Cannes, ha appena ricevuto anche l’Ischia Award - Attore dell’anno dal presidente della Regione Campania Antonio Bassolino. Un premio speciale viene dato anche a Jacqueline Bisset dopo esser stata protagonista in Piazza San Girolamo di uno show-tv insieme ad Elsa Pataki, Andrea Griminelli e Guido Lembo.
Tra gli high-light dell’anno la premiazione di Massimo Ranieri e Raoul Bova alle Terme di Castilgione e la festa al Murare e Castello con il nuovo divo di Hollywood Michael Fassbender ad esibirsi al fianco di Cristiano De Andre e Eric Lewis.
A divertire ci sono Ficarra e Picone che fanno a gara per corteggiare le bella attrici: Rosario Dawson e Gina Gershon.
Al Negombo i premi Oscar Dante Ferretti e Francesca Lo Schiavo omaggiano il raffinato regista Joel Schumacher e Citto Maselli. Subito dopo Lina Wertmuller consegna al funambolico trasformista Arturo Brachetti il premio Enrico Job.
Il venerdi’ sera vengono premiati due grandi dello spettacolo mondiale l’italiano Carlo Pedersoli alias Bud Spencer e l’americano Danny Glover. Mentre il sabato sera Gigi D’Alessio canta in Piazza Santa Restituta una serenata in diretta tv per Rosario Dawson; e il celebre produttore Harvey Weinstein, in ritardo da Saint Tropez, sfida il mare per portare a Ischia un’anticipazione del film Nine da proiettare subito dopo la visione di “8  ” di Federico Fellini.
La serata si chiuderà con i premi speciali ai registi Pupi Avati e Jim Sheridan. E anche al produttore Tucker Tooley, numero due di Relativity Media - Studios dell’anno. E Valerio De Paolis la cui Bim Distribuzioni festeggia 25 anni si attività e successi.

2010- Messico
Il successo è ormai certezza globale ed al festival di Ischia arrivano diversi nuovi big del cinema mondiale: il giovanissimo Channing Tatum fresco di matrimonio con la collega Jenna Drewe; il co-protagonista di The Hurtlocker Jeremy Renner insieme al Nicholas Chartier; il bello di Hollywood Josh Hartnett insieme all’agente Tracy Brennan e alla publicist Susan Patricola. E ancora l’inglese Dominic Cooper con la produttrice Alison Owen per presentare Tamara Drewe di Stephen Frears; la colombiana Sofia Vergara che di li a breve sarebbe divenuta la protagonista della serie Modern Family.
Dopo il mega ed irripetibile evento d’apertura con Sting del 2009 a rompere il giaccio a Ischia Global 2009 sono Kid Creole e le Coconuts insieme a Rocco Papaleo fresco del successo di Basilicata Coast to Coast. Mentre nel finale ci saranno Riccardo Cocciante ed il leggendario compositore Mike Stoller
L’evento è dedicato al Messico con il regista Jonas Cuaron a rappresentarlo. E tra i pesi del cinema inglese amato a Hollywood arrivano John Madden e John Boorman Memorabile il Gala della moda a Sant’Angelo con Rocco Barocco che trasforma la piazzetta in una grande sala sfilate. Sul palcoscenico 20 top model internazionali ed una superstella del defile’: la top-model e attrice Eva Riccobono a cui Lina Wertmuller consegna il premio Enrico Job. Poi vengono premiati il produttore Pietro Valsecchi ed i tre pupilli di Tony Renis: Piero, Ignazio e Gianluca alias Il Volo.
Tra i volti più amati dai cinephile ecco Peter Fonda fare amicizia con Peppino di Capri al Rangio Fellone ed ecco Lee Daniels legare col produttore Avi Lerner che due anni dopo gli produrrà The Paperboy (in concorso a Cannes 2012).
Il supercast di ospiti si arricchisce di tanta altra musica su cui svetta James Senese. Assente giustificato Paul Haggis il ruolo di chairman passa nelle mani del collega Bobby Moresco. E Lino Banfi riceve un premio speciale quale ambasciatore Uniced. Insomma ce ne è sempre per tutti i gusti.

2011- United Kingdom
In occasione delle celebrazioni del 150.mo dell’Unità d’Italia, lo scenografo Dante Ferretti (già vincitore di due Premi Oscar) è chiamato a svolgere il delicato compito di Chairman. Al suo fianco la bella e briillante moglie e collega Francesca Lo Schiavo e la presidentessa ex novo del festival Trudie Styler.
Il festival, preceduto dal matrimonio a Capri del produttore Ryan Kavanaugh con la Britta Lazenga, apre con un giorno d’anticipo alla Colombaia di Visconti dove il sindaco di Forio Regine e Massimo Bottiglieri hanno allestito una Mostra sull’Unità.
Il giorno dopo gran gala inaugurale con l’omaggio a due leggende: il regista Ettore Scola e il cantautore Gino Paoli artefice di una performance strabiliante davanti a Sting che ascolta seduto in prima fila accanto a Trudie. Due giorni dopo la figlia dei due. Coco Sumner, trasforma l’hotel Delfini a Carta Romana in una grande arena rock. Momento clou del festival la serata finale con ben 7 premi Oscar sul palcoscenico: Ferretti, Lo Schiavo insiemi al recuperato amico Paul Haggis, ed alle new-entry Melissa Leo, Forest Whitaker, Christoph Waltz e a Tom Hooper (regista dell’anno per il film Il discorso del Re). A dare voce ai fatti e le questioni che scottano sono l’ambasciatrice Unicef Nazanin Boniadi, le modelle Helena Christensen e Karolina Kurkova e le giornaliste Rula Jebreal e Desiree Colapietro Petrini protagoniste del Social Cinema Forum.
Tra gli altri personaggi più rappresentativi premiati Gerry Butler (che nel frattempo è diventato un big), Violante Placido (reduce da due film a Hollywood), l’altro americano Anthony Mackie, il regista Cary Fukunaga, l’italiano Mario Martone e il produttore Carlo Degli Esposti in corsa per l’Oscar col film Noi credevamo.
Un premio speciale va anche ai produttori Rick Nicita e Paula Wagner tra gli oratori al Global Production Summit organizzato presso La Colombaia, a Lucio Dalla nella serata finale del festival, al presidente dei Grammy Neil Portow e all’attore Massimo Ghini
La rivelazione del festival è la bellissima Madalina Ghenea a cui il produttore Valsecchi strappa a tempo di record la firma per 2 film.
La nona edizione del festival si chiude al Porticciullo sulla Riva Destra con i tifosi del Napoli ad assediare il presidente Aurelio De Laurentiis sotto lo sguardo divertito delle ignare Star rimaste sull’Isola.

2012- Argentina
Alla decima edizione, è stata preceduta da un prestigioso riconoscimento trasmesso dal Presidente della Repubblica: una medaglia di bronzo con cui Giorgio Napolitano che ha inteso premiare l’impegno culturale ed imprenditoriale di Pascal Vicedomini e dell’Accademia Internazionale Arte Ischia nel promuovere positivamente l’arte cinematografica italiana d’estate in una perla turistica del Mezzogiorno. Un premio di rappresentanza consegnato dal prefetto di Napoli Andrea De Martino al presidente onorario dell’Accademia Internazionale Arte Ischia Leonardo Carriero.
Inaugurato informalmente sabato 7 luglio alla Colombaia di Luchino Visconti con la mostra fotografica “Omaggio a Liz Taylor” di Richard Young Ischia Global 2012 è ufficialmente partito domenica 8 con il “Gala del cinema e della Musica” in cui Zucchero, Trudie Styler e Tony Renis hanno premiato il leggendario produttore musicale Clive Davis: E poi Avi Lerner e Mark Canton hanno reso omaggio alla regista Liliana Cavani (per la sua straordinaria carriera). Nei giorni successivi premi anche ai fratelli Paolo e Vittorio Taviani (nell’anno del rilancio mondiale grazie al successo del film “Cesare deve morire”); al maestro Roberto De Simone e all’attrice Monica Bellucci in una splendida serata al Parco Terme di Castiglione.
L’evento che ha avuto tanti ospiti come i registi Rob Reiner (Harry ti presento Sally), Olivier Nakache (Quasi amici), Enrico e Carlo Vanzina, gli attori Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper, Aaron Diaz, Kelly Brook, Francesca Neri, Marco Giallini insieme al cantautore Alan Sorrenti; Andrea Griminelli, Enzo Gragnaniello, Vittorio Grigolo e Nina Zilli. E ha poi proposto un Focus sull’ Argentina con la partecipazione del leggendario regista Fernando Solanas e delle attrici Maricel Alvarez e Lola Ponce nonché con l’allestimento di una Mostra fotografica nel Museo dei Giardini Ravino di Forio a cura dall’Ambasciata Argentina a Roma.
Gli appuntamenti quotidiani con registi, attori, artigiani del set e con i produttori, nel corso di Forum, conferenze stampa e soprattutto delle Master-Class per attori realizzate col coach americano Bernard Hiller. Mentre tra le sezioni più attese e seguite il Social Cinema Forum (con il patrocinio dell’Unicef) presieduto da Trudie Styler che ha posto alla ribalta l’urgente questione di dare giusta considerazione a chi esprime nell’arte così come nella vita la “diversità”. Spazio dunque agli “ambasciatori” delle cosiddette minoranze culturali, etniche, fisiche, di genere e di ogni altra “diversità” affinché si diffonda il maggior rispetto per ogni individuo, dando il giusto peso al valore ed al merito, piuttosto che al modo di apparire ed esprimersi.
Nell’ambito di tale sezione, sono state assegnate N. 2 borse di studio a Max e Michaela Quinn (10 anni) figli dell’attore Francesco Quinn, scomparso improvvisamente ad agosto 2011.
A completamento del calendario degli eventi speciali sono stati organizzati: un concerto in onore del compianto compositore Lucio Dalla (socio onorario dell’Accademia Ischia), con la partecipazione straordinaria di Zucchero e dell’americana Nicole Slack Jones; la Mostra fotografica di B. Zarro per ricordare Marilyn Monroe a cinquant’anni dalla morte (presente il regista inglese Simon Curtis, candidato all’Oscar 2012 per il film “My Week with Marilyn”); e poi il classico omaggio al compianto architetto e scenografo Enrico Job, con l’assegnazione dei premi speciali al fotografo Fabrizio Ferri e alla cantante Nina Zilli.

2013- Francia
E’ la Francia la protagonista dell’XI edizione dell’Ischia Global Film & Music Fest. Un Paese che protegge la propria cultura, conquista spettatori in tutto il mondo ed esporta all’estero un modello “francese” di sostegno al cinema nazionale. Come testimoniano i successi planetari di titoli quali “Giù al Nord”, “The Artist” e “Quasi amici”. A rappresentare il cugini d’oltralpe nel galà inaugurale, un cul de sac di stratificata diavoleria firmato Roman Polanski: “Venere in pelliccia”, con la sua affascinante protagonista, Emanuelle Seigner, a guidarci in questo infinito gioco di specchi dove il teatro si riflette nel cinema, l’arte nel suo autore, l’uomo nella donna, la realtà nella finzione. Da Parigi all’Australia il passo è breve. Non è forse il mito del Moulin Rouge e degli artisti bohemien a ispirare il più bel film di Baz Luhrman? Con una retrospettiva praticamente completa dei suoi lavori, la kermesse dell’estate cinematografica mondiale ha premiato un artista che il cinema ce l’ha nel sangue. Magari usando e abusando tutti i sortilegi e le stregonerie, lecite e non, di quelle grandi storie “bigger than life” che hanno incantato le platee del Novecento, segnando per sempre il loro immaginario. Indimenticabile la serata in cui il regista australiano ha introdotto personalmente, con grande emozione, la visione del suo “Grande Gatsby” sul magnifico schermo all’aperto, sul mare, nella darsena del Regina Isabella. Da Hollywood , la terra dove i sogni diventano realtà, due grandi star hanno calamitato l’attenzione di tutti: Nicholas Cage e Samuel L. Jackson. Il premio Oscar (per “Via da Las Vegas”) ha presentato in anteprima il suo ultimo film, “Il cacciatore di donne”, con la giovane protagonista femminile Vanessa Hudgens, ieri divetta Disney e teen idol, oggi interprete di ruoli maturi e controversi che non l’hanno allontanata dall’affetto del pubblico dei giovanissimi in delirio a ogni sua apparizione e disposti a tutto pur di avere un autografo o rubare un ambitissimo selfie. Non sono mancati altri nomi del grande cinema internazionale: da Vanessa Redgrave a Terry Gilliam, da Mike Newell a Eli Roth, da Trudie Styler ad Arnon Milchan.
Il cinema italiano è stato rappresentato anzitutto da Michele Placido, Chairman dell’edizione 2013. Ma anche da Valeria Golino e Riccardo Scamarcio, coppia nella vita e nel lavoro, due garanzie di successo in qualunque cosa facciano. Con “Miele”, esordio dietro la macchina da presa, la Golino ha convinto tutti, pubblico e critica, gettando le basi per una nuova carriera da regista. Platea in visibilio per Alessandro Siani, figlio della terra e dell’ironia campane che ha saputo scalare le vette dello showbiz locale per diventare uno dei nuovi re del botteghino tricolore, e per Gabriel Garko, uno dei volti più amati dal pubblico televisivo italiano.
Sotto il cielo di Ischia non sono mancate le note della grande musica internazionale. A cominciare a un paroliere che ha regalato versi immortali al canzoniere del Novecento: Sir Tim Rice, noto per il sodalizio con Andrew Lloyd Weber e premaito con Ischia William Walton Music Legend Award.
E ancora Michael Bolton, protagonista della serata di apertura. Gino Paoli, uno degli padri della canzone d’autore italiana, Umberto Tozzi, tra gli hit maker che hanno davvero sfondato all’estero, Stefano Bollani, astro del jazz che combina talento musicale a capacità istrioniche, e ancora Siedah Garrett, Gigi D’Alessio, Enzo Gragnaniello, Tony Esposito, Anna Tatangelo, Audio 2 e una doverosa riscoperta: Peppino Gagliardi, il cantante dell’amore nervoso, protagonista assoluto della scena musicale degli anni ’70 per raffinatezza e intensità interpretativa.
Riconoscimenti ai produttori Arnon Milchan e Gianni Nunnari, Kerry Kennedy (figlia di Bob) per ricordare (e omaggiare) i difensori dei diritti umani che hanno affrontato la prigionia, la tortura e la morte nella battaglia per il rispetto dei diritti umani. Spettacolo e impegno per un’edizione di Ischia Global davvero da incorniciare.

2014- Bulgaria
La XII edizione nasce sotto il segno delle culture del Mediterraneo che si incontrano per un abbraccio d’arte e di pace. Nel Galà di apertura la cantante israeliana Noa trascina il pubblico internazionale con alcuni tra i gioielli più preziosi del canzoniere napoletano, da “Santa Lucia” a “Io te vurria vasà”, ricevendo un’ovazione sul tema de “La vita è bella” di Nicola Piovani scritto per il film premio Oscar di Roberto Benigni. Il regista turco Ferzan Ozpetek viene premiato con l’Enrico Job Art Award”, mentre Paolo Virzì arriva sull’isola verde con sua moglie Micaela Ramazzotti per ricevere il premio come miglior regista dell’anno grazie al pluridecorato “Il capitale umano”, noir glaciale ambientato nella velenosa Brianza che segna un passo avanti, decisivo, nella maturazione professionale del regista toscano. Nelle sale del Regina Isabella è l’attrice indiana Freida Pinto a calamitare gli sguardi del pubblico del Festival. Con l’attore inglese Tom Cullen presenta in anteprima il suo ultimo film, “Desert dancer”.
Da Hollywood arriva anche una delle attrici più brave della sua generazione, Jessica Chastain. «Per me – racconta - l’Italia è un paese bellissimo dove torno spesso molto volentieri. Una vera medicina per l’anima». Attore dell’anno è Chiwetel Ejiofor, candidato all’Oscar come miglior attore per uno dei film più amati della stagione: “12 anni schiavo”, per la regia di Steve McQueen. La temperatura del Festival sale vertiginosamente con Selena Gomez, nell’occhio del ciclone del gossip internazionale anche per via del suo tira e molla sentimentale con un altro giovane beniamino dei teenager di tutto il mondo: Justin Bieber. Lo sanno bene le centinaia di fans, le “selenators”, che da giorni stazionano davanti all’albergo e nei luoghi d’incontro del festival sfidando temperature africane e un servizio d’ordine inflessibile. Dal mondo dei serial tv arriva Lena Headey, perfida sovrana del “Trono di spade”, mentre Leo Howard, giovane star di consumato mestiere tra set e arti marziali, confessa che gli piacerebbe fare un film con il suo idolo, Johnny Depp. Tra mostre, convegni, masterclass e proiezioni sulla spiaggia tre bellezze attirano i riflettori dei paparazzi: Lindsay Lohan, Emily Ratajkowski e Madalina Ghenea, scelta da Paolo Sorrentino per il suo ultimo film “Youth – La giovinezza”. Non mancano le grandi personalità della musica, che scelgono ancora una volta l’Ischia Global per le loro performance. L’enfant terrible Giovanni Allevi stupisce i puristi con il suo talento e carisma; Raphael Gualazzi incanta la platea grazie al suo amore viscerale per il jazz; Nek ripercorre i successi di una carriera fortunata anche a livello internazionale. Ma è Antonello Venditti, decano dei cantautori italiani, 40 anni di carriera, ma guai a ricordarglielo («La carriera non esiste, esiste la passione»), il protagonista musicale dell’edizione 2014 di Ischia Global. Con qualche strappo al cerimoniale nel Galà di chiusura sotto le stelle, dove, tra le sue canzoni più celebri eseguite al pianoforte, dedica il premio William Walton Music Legend a Paolo Borsellino e a tutti i magistrati italiani. Tra gli altri ospiti del Festival, l’australiano Sullivan Stapleton, il mago della performance capture Andy Serkis, il regista inglese Marc Webb, il cantautore Cristiano De Andrè e Valentina Stella nell’insolita veste di sceneggiatrice. Due grandi film chiudono la kermesse: “Apes Revolution – Il pianeta delle scimmie” e “Leviathan”, ritratto dolente e spietato della Russia contemporanea, in corsa per gli Oscar nella grande notte delle stelle.

2015- Danimarca
Tra le più ricche di gratificazioni e personalità, la 13° edizione di Ischia Global nasce con un ritorno straordinario: quello di Andrea Bocelli, premiato al Galà d’apertura con un Telegatto speciale da Neil Portnow, Clive Davis e Caterina Caselli. L’ennesima consacrazione per un artista che proprio a Ischia rivela le prime anticipazioni su “Cinema”, progetto discografico dedicato alle colonne sonore più belle della Settima Arte. Dopo l’omaggio a Robin Williams con l’anteprima di “Boulevard”, il suo ultimo film, sull’Isola Verde è di scena la simpatia del divo latino Antonio Banderas, la classe di una signora del cinema e del teatro come Helen Mirren, l’originalità di un filmaker come Nicolas Winding Refn, il talento di una giovane attrice destinare a esplodere: Alicia Vikander, che Ischia Global omaggia con due film, “Ex machina” e “Testament of youth”, e che le fa un po’ da portafortuna. L’interprete svedese, infatti, vincerà l’Oscar come miglior attrice non protagonista per “The Danish girl” di Tom Hooper. Per Ischia Global arriva anche Jimmy Kimmel, il nuovo re della tv americana che ha radici proprio sull’Isola Verde, a Casamicciola. Radici che il popolare anchorman non ha mai dimenticato.
Riconoscimenti ai più importanti registi italiani della stagione: Francesco Munzi con “Anime nere”; Matteo Garrone per “Il racconto dei racconti”; Alessandro Siani per “Si accettano miracoli”; Mario Martone per “Il giovane favoloso”, il film dell’anno. Il regista napoletano viene premiato dal neogovernatore della Regione Campania, Vincenzo De Luca, al festival per testimoniarne la forza di proposta culturale e realtà turistica internazionale per la Campania e l’intero Mezzogiorno d’Italia. Alla kermesse dell’estate arriva anche Teresa De Sio, una delle voci più interessanti dell’ampio rinnovamento che negli anni ’80 ha agitato le acque della canzone partenopea. Ma l’entusiasmo dei fan è tutto per Clementino, divo da hit parade dopo anni di scenari underground.
Il fascino di Madalina Ghenea, alla vigilia del suo primo film da protagonista, conquista più di uno spettatore, mentre Gabriel Garko, premiato con un Telegatto da Rosanna Mani di Tv Sorrisi & Canzoni si conferma uno dei beniamini del pubblico femminile. Spazio ai grandi nomi dell’industria dello spettacolo: da Ted Sarandos, numero uno di Netflix e fuoriclasse dell’entertainment globale, a Cheryl Boone Isaacs, Presidente dell’Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences, l’associazione che organizza e assegna i Premi Oscar. La vocazione anche umanitaria e sociale del Festival è confermata grazie alla presenza di Paul Haggis, Carolina Herrera e Paul Allen, co-fondatore di Microsoft premiato per la sua filantropia con l’Ischia Humanitarian Award.

2016- Canada
Al Galà di apertura della XIV edizione, l’anteprima di un film molto atteso: “Wiener dog” di Todd Solondz, il corrosivo autore di “Happiness” e “Palindromes”. Lui non c’è, ma a presentare il film arriva uno dei suoi interpreti più celebri: Danny DeVito. Artista dal sarcasmo corrosivo e produttore dal fiuto infallibile, DeVito è inseguitissimo dal popolo del festival. La sua simpatia rende scoppiettante la prima serata che schiera, tra gli altri, il bluesman italiano Zucchero, la signora della musica internazionale Dionne Warwick e il regista italiano Paolo Genovese, trionfatore della stagione cinematografica con la commedia “Perfetti sconosciuti”.
La variegata lobby dei cinefili trova pane per i suoi denti con l’omaggio al cinema canadese e a uno dei suoi filmaker di punta David Cronenberg, autore di un cinema visionario eprovocatorio, celebrato con una mostra ai Giardini Ravino di Forio. A Ischia Global arriva uno dei suoi interpreti più intensi: Jeremy Irons che, insieme alla moglie, l’attrice irlandese Sinéad Cusack , gira in lungo e in largo l’Isola Verde, restando incantato da suoi scorci più inconsueti.
L’Humanitarian Forum 2016, dedicato al tema della diversità e della discriminazione, ribadisce l’importanza di avvalersi di grandi appuntamenti artistici e culturali internazionali per favorire il dialogo su questioni di rilevanza sociale che toccano, anche direttamente, il mondo del cinema e della sua industria. Basti pensare alla polemica che ha investito l’Academy qualche mese prima sull’assenza di artisti di colore tra i candidati nelle categorie principali. A Ischia ne parlano, tra gli altri, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, Presidente Academy (per il secondo anno consecutivo al festival), Kerry Kennedy, figlia di Bob e Chair person dell’edizione 2016, e l’attore afroamericano Danny Glover. Anche Barry Morrow, sceneggiatore premio Oscar per “Rain Man”, affronta un tema importante come l’autismo e presenta il suo esordio dietro la macchina da presa, “Britten”, commedia con protagonista Madalina Ghenea, anche lei alla kermesse con un nuovo fidanzato, il milionario romeno Matei Stratan. Pubblico in delirio nella piazzetta di Porto d’Ischia gli Heffron Drive, la boy band americana amata dai teenager di tutto il mondo. Tantissimi i giovani fan che li hanno attesi durante le prove per farsi firmare un autografo o scattarsi un selfie con Kendall Schmidt. Più defilato, ma ugualmente atteso, Jack Huston, appartenente a una grande stirpe cinematografica che comprende il nonno John e zia Angelica.
Accanto ai grandi maestri come Vittorio Storaro (che racconta la sua recente esperienza con Woody Allen), il meglio del nuovo cinema italiano: Riccardo Scamarcio, Gabriele Mainetti, Matteo Rovere, Daphne Scocchia, Claudio Giovannesi, Claudio Bisio e Gianfranco Rosi, già vincitore dell’Orso d’Oro a Berlino e qualche mese dopo candidato all’Oscar con il documentario “Fuocoammare”. L’Ischia Legend Award va a Tim Robbins, premio Oscar ed esponente di primo piano della Hollywood liberal e democratica, mentre la miglior attrice dell’anno è Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, magnifica interprete de “La pazza gioia” di Paolo Virzì, proiettato al Festival di Cannes e uno dei film più amati della stagione cinematografica.

Among the enchanting islands that close to circle the Gulf of Naples, Ischia is not only the largest but also the most varied for the many and constant discoveries that reserves for those who really wanted to know it thoroughly. 
QThis island, of trapezoidal shape, about 46 square kilometers, with a coastline of about 34 km, enjoys one of the most privileged geographical locations in the world and is one of the most favored by the climatic point of view. There are spacious and sunny beaches alternate with relaxing pine forests and the countryside and green hills, the rocky crags of the dominant Mount Epomeo, whose peak reaches 789 meters above sea level, creating an infinite variety of landscapes to enjoy and offer multiple possibility of invigorating walks and attractive excursions. The island of Ischia, of volcanic origin, holds in its subsoil, as already stated by Strabo, authentic “gold mines” for the extraordinary curative effect of its eight thermo-basins and its even more numerous springs, stoves, geysers and arenas.

Today the island is administratively divided into six municipalities, Ischia, Casamicciola terme, Lacco Ameno, Forio, Serrara Fontana and Barano that gradually meet on our tour of the island in an anti-clockwise.
Ischia is an ancient city, known since the remote ages for the industry of clay pots from which, as Pliny tells us, the island took one of his names, Pithaecusa. Originally his city stood where now widens the body of water of the harbor. The eruption of 302 a. C. swallowed its old town, creating a natural lake, transformed in 1854 by Ferdinand II of Bourbon into a port.
In addition to breathe the balmy air of a vast and beautiful pine forest, connected by a bridge to Ischia, rises from the sea the most important monument of the whole island: the Aragonese Castle.
Casamicciola Terme instead lies on the northern coast of the island, partly on the sea and partly on the green hills beyond. The town consists of homes and villas surrounded by gardens, some linked to historical records, such as villa Ibsen where he stayed and worked the great Norwegian playwright, and villa Zavota, which housed Garibaldi when he came to heal the consequences of his wound at Aspromonte with the waters and mud of "Gurgitello."
In addition to Casamicciola, continuing along the beautiful coast, appears Lacco Ameno. Exposed more than other parts of the Island to invasion, Forio has sixteen towers along the coast, more for defense only to watch, of which the most prominent is the "Torrione" in the heart of the town.
Forio is among the six municipalities of the island, what foreigners know and love more "natural" for the beauty of its beaches, the green of which is rich in a natural environment where beauty, history, tourism and poetry are able to get along.
Following in hill, Serrara Fontana Serrara Fontana, including the internal places of the island, has a very special rural charm, with immense charm and lovely views. From the viewpoint of the round, which opens onto one of the most extensive views of the island, you can admire the impressive promontory in the foreground of Sant'Angelo, with the two small coves. Sant'Angelo is the only Marine gem of Serrara Fontana, a gem envied by the whole world! Then Barano, with its mild and dry climate all year round, which, despite being a typical agricultural country, has the magnificent marine Maronti its access to the sea, a beach full of hot springs and fumaroles that raise their vapors from the burning sand. The most famous springs in the area are those of Barano Nitrodi and Olmitello. From the nineteenth century to the present day

The historical events of the XIX century can be considered as planning started with the completion of the dangers caused by the Saracens. Following the political events which brought about the depopulation of the "Castle" and the consequent transfer of the island all the privileges and prerogatives, the Borgo di Celso took the official name of Ischia.

Historical outlines

From the origins to the first century BC.

The Euboeans settlers, Chalcis and Eritreans, landed in the first half of the eighth century, settled northwest on the height of Mount Vico of the island, surrounded on three sides by the sea and connected to it by a wild access, location of the optimal conditions for a settlement to which was given the name Pithecusa.

In addition to reasons of defense, the choice had to be determined by the existence of two harbors landing at the base of the promontory which made easier the maritime activities and business of the new colony.

More than likely it appears, therefore, that Pithecusa, at least in the first half of its foundation, has assumed the role of maritime and commercial emporium. This, however, should not ascribe the absence, in the island of earlier settlements: the same town of Monte Vico, in fact, had been continuously inhabited from the Bronze Age. Fragments of Mycenaean pottery, dating from the fifteenth and fourteenth centuries, found in the coastal strip between Porto d'Ischiaand Casamicciola precisely on the hill of Castiglione, feel, indeed, pre-existing links with the Aegean world.

The topography of Pithecusa is configured with: downstream from the headland to the north-east, the harbor and a small inhabited build up area (now Lacco) on the height of the Ascending City up to the Acropolis, where the presence of an archaic temple is documented by the remains of tiles and frames, at the foot of the Acropolis, in the north-west, still a harbor and the valley of S. Montano, area suitable for the location of the necropolis.

Alfonso Di Spigna, the painter of melancholy, was born in Lacco Ameno on January 1, 1697 by Dionisio and Lucia Castaldo and died on November 1st 785 at the age of 88 years. He was buried in the congregation of the laity of St. Mary of the Assumption in Lacco and during the earthquake of 1983 the bones of the painter went missing in the collapse of that congregation. Pupil of Francesco Solimena, spent part of his youth in Genoa, where he lived about seven years. He had to return to Ischia before 1735, because in this year are registered payments on their behalf at the church of St. Our Lady of Loreto and the Congregation of Visitapoveri. The painter was a member of this congregation until his death, holding important positions. From the news of his life we have the image of an artist well integrated into the island’s life in 700s, active and well-paid landowner who, in the words of the priest Domenico Marone in the death certificate quotes: "he spent his life well". In the church of St. Sebastian, are preserved two paintings, "The Annunciation" and "The Archangel Gabriel with Tobias".

Cardinal Baldassare Cossa was born in Ischia in the mid-fourteenth century and died in Florence on December 22, 1419, son of'Admiral Giovanni Cossa and Cicciola Barrili. He was one of the three popes during the Western Schism under the name John XXIII, from 1410 to 1415.

Cardinal Inigo d'Avalos was born in the thirties of the sixteenth century in Ischia and died in Rome on February 20, 1600, he was the son of Alfonso of Avalos, Marquis of Pescara and Maria of Aragon. He was Commendatory Abbot of Procida.

About the painter Cesare Calise we have a few news and many of his paintings were destroyed. Cesare Calise by some historians, was deemed Lecce-born but was actually born in Forio.

His activity is documented from 1588 to 1641, as evidenced by the contracts signed by him and the parish registers. Mannerist painter, ha d an evil destiny, because most of his work has been destroyed or badly restored, as in the case of Our Lady of Mysteries in the Church of Barano. Other his works are: Our Lady of Loreto, S. Nicola da Tolentino, triptych of the Madonna delle Grazie and the Saints Vito and Catherine of Alexandria, Martyrdom of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, Our Lady of the Rosary and the fifteen mysteries.

All paintings are signed Calise in Latin "Caesar Calensis pingebat"

Filippo di Lustro, forian by birth, lived continuously in Naples, where he had attended college, majoring in Law. President of the Club of Portici, Di Lustro collaborating with some leading figures in the events of that extraordinary decade of the century: Carlo Lauberg, who would become head of the Provisional Government of the Neapolitan Republic of '99, and the young Vincenzo Galiani and Emanuele De Deo. All together participated in the conspiracy against the Bourbons of '94, which failed, was drowned in blood.
Filippo Di Lustro, eluding justice Bourbon fled his native island. To protect him the wilderness was Epomeo, which provided safe and impenetrable havens. For several days he waited for the opportune moment to continue the flight, until one night, could not embark luckily Lacco Ameno on a boat that took him to Civitavecchia.
From the port of Lazio, the man reached Liguria, where, in Oneglia, the current Imperia, was founded a republic pro-French, of which was president Filippo Buonarroti, fine intellectual and revolutionary Jacobin. There, he held roles Di Lustro significant responsibility in the administration of the republic, winning the confidence and esteem of Buonarroti. The stay in Oneglia, lasted only a few months. After the capture and death of Babeuf, Di Lustro chose to join the army of Napoleon, where he attained the rank of Commissioner of War. With Napoleon's army took part in the Egyptian campaign and there, on July 25, 1799 he died fighting the Turks at Aboukir.

Erasmo Di Lustro was born in Forio in 1823. Young he takes part into the Franciscan Order of the Friars Minor Observant, under the name of Father Giuseppe from Forio.
Excellent speaker, with a fervent passion for politics, did not hide his liberal sympathies, against the Bourbons. Ideals that are its flag after the escape of the Spanish rulers. He targets the mass explaining the need to give the necessity to annex Rome to the rest of Italy.
His thought and its ways attract the sympathy of Giuseppe Garibaldi, but cause many problems with the church hierarchy, who see in the priest a rebellion against the Pope Dismissed from the Order, including the name of baptism, of Erasmo Di Lustro and has been teaching in a private school in Naples, where he engages in deep humanities.
In 1873 he returned to Forio and take part in disputes related to local politics. In recent years, lives a retreat, focusing on private and literary studies.
He died on January 4, 1898.

Monsignor Francesco Morgioni, born in Ischia on September 1, 1661 by Nicola Morgioni and Domenica Sorrentino. He was Vicar General of our Diocese.
Bishop of Ruvo di Puglia and then Minori. He died in Ischia on November 18, 1712.

Bishop Bernardo Onorato Buonocore, who was born in Ischia on August 18, 1700 by Nicola Onorato and Antonia Sirabella. He was Bishop of Trevico and Vico della Baronia.
He died in Trevico (Avellino) on December 31, 1773.

Bishop Francesco Lanfreschi, born in Ischia on March 17, 1691 by Marquis Giacomo and Angela Lanfreschi of Mesesy-Garay. He was bishop of Gaeta and then Archbishop of Acerenza and Matera. He died in Matera November 18, 1772.

Monsign. Giovanni Andrea Schiano, born in Ischia on April 21, 1676 by Antonio Schiano and Lucia Colonna. He was Bishop of Massa Lubrense. He died in Ischia on December 12, 1745.

Anna Baldino born in Piedimonte of Barano on January 16, 1913. She graduated in Arts at the Royal University of Naples in 1937, and from '37 to '50 was a teacher of literature, Latin and Greek in the sub-office in Ischia high school "Umberto" of Naples, in 1951 became dean. She founded all secondary schools existing in the other towns of the island. The Baldino wrote and published essays on the Counter-Reformation.

Luigi Lavitrano was born in Forio on March 7, 1874, from Leonardo and Giuseppina Musella. After the earthquake of 1883 was brought to Castelmorrone (Caserta) in an establishment run by the Sisters of Charity, where he completed his first studies. Completed the course of primary schooling, was entrusted to Father Filippo Valentini, who opened a school in Rome, where he completed high school and in 1897 received his degree in teology. On March 26, 1898 he was ordained a priest in Rome in the church of San Giovanni Lateran.
In 1914 he was elected Bishop of Cava dei Tirreni, Sarno and in 1924 was promoted to Archbishop of Benevento. While staying at the helm of the two dioceses, Luigi Lavitrano devoted himself with all his might to the care of souls, to the many orphans.
In 1928 he was proclaimed Archbishop of Palermo which was greeted with the blessing of the people, he remained 17 years and during the Second World War remained as the only authority in Palermo. Pius XII called him to Rome in 1945, elevating him to the rank of Prefect of the Sacred Congregation for Religious, in the new and high office he distinguished himself for his life spotless ruling elegantly.
On August 2, 1950, the Cardinal died at Castel Gandolfo. His remains rest in Forio in the basilica of S. Our Lady of Loreto.

Born in Forio on August 3, 1842 and graduated in 1866 as a surgeon and specialized in homeopathy participating in the Third War of Independence, as a medical officer. He wrote several works on homeopathy taking part in several international congresses, in 1895 was established the chair of homeopathy at the University of Naples and the first to occupy the chair was just the Cigliano. In 1896 he was elected Consigliere Provinciale for the District of Forio and obtained the provincialization of the road of Ischia-Forio.
He died in Naples in 1913, that Naples which gave him a place in the fence of the illustrious men.
His forian residence is the ancient Cigliano palace, where even today, on the side of the tower stands an angel holding a banner, which read: "Similia similibus".

Born in Ischia Porto on December 4, 1870. In 1897, after rigorous studies, he was ordained priest, priest rigorous and balanced spirit, he conveyed his ideas and initiatives clearly.  Giovanni Maltese was born in Forio on January 7, 1852 by Francesco and Rosa Castaldi, who live in the area of Monterone. Lost his mother since he was child and his father was passed to a second marriage, was entrusted to the care of his uncles farmers and lived his childhood in contact with the fertile land of Forio and the rural culture. Soon emerged in him the love for art, which was naturally suited. He liked to carve figurines of men and animals in the wood of the branches of his land with good results in a child of his age and this prompted then-Mayor Orazio Patalano to ask him for a scholarship that allowed him to move to Naples and enroll at the Academy of Fine Arts, where he received education and arts education by the most famous masters of the time. Obtained his degree he moved to Rome, where he attended for two years the study of Giulio Monteverde, famous sculptor realistic. Just by the sculptor Monteverde, Piedmontese by birth and Roman by adoption, our Maltese was indicated as a sculptor for the decorative work of the castle of Chenonceaux, one of the castles of the Loire, which still can be visited with admiration for the elegance of style the perfection of the architecture, the symbiosis with the natural environment in which they are immersed. Between 1881 and 1883 the island of Ischia was hit by two earthquakes, the most devastating was that one of 1983, also known as "earthquake of Casamicciola" because it was the town that have the greatest number of injuries and deaths. Forio also suffered a lot of damage and wept many deaths. Among them relatives of Giovanni Maltese, who managed to save one from the rubble with the help of a boy then a decade later identified by biographers in the person of Louis Patalano, who later became a close friend, even if politically motivated them parted to the early '900s, as evidenced by some satirical dart launched by a Maltese Patalano in the collection "Cerrerme". Obtained in the lease by the City Tower, transformed it into a private residence and studio staff. Here was the highest number of his sculptures and paintings, which still reside there, having been left to the City its substantial heritage and having the City and ordered placed in the upper hall, called the Museum G. Maltese. Happy was the meeting with the artist Mrs. Fanny Lane Fayer, creating a life-giving experience of love, which ended with the wedding, celebrated in Naples on April 20, 1901. Fate was not generous. Only 12 years later, on August 21, 1913, G. Maltese died in Forio, suffering from heart disease.

He was born in Forio on September 23, 1880, the third son of Dr. Matteo, physician and scholar of the spa island, and Marianna Patalano. He studied at the Seminary of Ischia and the College of the Benedictine Fathers of Cava dei Tirreni. Graduating from law school, he devoted himself mainly to poetry and the visual arts. He contributed to Il Mattino and Il Giorno newspaper, directed the periodic the Gerone and L’Aquilotto, the latter which he founded in 1921.He took part into the First World War as an officer. In those years he conceived and executed the monument to Vittorio Emanuele III, erected in the town of Gorizia. He taught history and law at Naples in technical schools. Back in Forio, after the Second World War, he was appointed by the City Council the custody and management of the Torrione, where were kept the works of the poet and sculptor Giovanni Maltese, which also supervised the publication of the unknown Sonnets in dialect with the addition of a glossary and an essay on the forian dialect. His collections of poetry: Quando ne imbrocco una and I miei versi giocosi, and the comedy in forian dialect Nzàurete. The inscriptions were composed by him to Cardinal Luigi Lavitrano (Basilica of Santa Maria di Loreto) and forian hero Luca Balsofiore.
Giovanni Verde loved deeply Forio and the island. In recent years he devoted himself to the establishment of the group Italian Sailors. In 1955 he took interest into the publication of the dialect sonnets unpublished by Maltese.
Among his works are: " La saga di Pitecusa o la leggenda dell’isola d’Ischia”, "Quando ne imbrocco una" in the local forian dialect, "I miei versi giocosi" in Italian and comedy in forian dialect "Nzàurete".
Its poetic production is characterized by an intelligent irony and self-deprecation, through which grasps the aspects of genuine forian life. In addition to his poetic works to include the work of sculptor, recalling at least the monument to Vittorio Emanuele II in Gorizia and the bas-relief dedicated to Luca Balsofiore gold medal for military valor.
He died on March 28, 1956.

Luca Balsofiore was born in Forio  (Naples) on January 11 1906. After graduating from the Institute of Marine Captain Boat in Naples and admitted to the course reserve officers at the Naval Academy of Livorno, in June 1928 he received the appointment of Lieutenant Direction Machines. Retained in service demand in 1930 was promoted to Lieutenant and in 1937 was appointed Captain, paying later service on Naval School, at the School Specialists of Venice, Livorno's Naval Academy, the Naval Command at the Autonomous Adriatic and finally to Navalgenio Genova. He took part into military operations in Spain, on April 16, 1941, participated in the mission of convoy escort that saw the unit harshly committed against four similar units English. In the bitter fighting that followed, which culminated in the sinking of the British destroyer Luca Tarigo and Mohawk torpedoed by the same Tarigo Luca, Luca Balsofiore although severely wounded and blinded by a blow to the face he wanted to be accompanied dashboard next to his Commander the Commander Pietro De Cristofaro, and with him disappeared beneath the waves.

Luigi Mazzella born in Ischia 21 December 1829. In 1865 he graduated in medicine specializing in obstetric surgery, was a physician of great science and strove to patients with singularities. In 1869 he was elected mayor of Ischia and the fate of common interest for fifteen years or so, gave rise to elementary schools, simplified the bureaucracy of the municipality put discipline in public offices. The work that reminds us was the building of the plant thermo-mineral water of Ischia Porto. He died on March 5, 1883.

He was born in Forio in 1836. He graduated in medicine in 1863. In Forio he strove with all his might to alleviate the suffering moral and material of the lower classes and the underprivileged. In 1881 and 1883, when Ischia was hit by the earthquake, Matteo Verde was among the first to help the wounded. These merits earned him the appointment of Knight of the Crown of Italy by King Umberto I. He was a doctor involved in scientific studies and research. Archbishop Carlo Mennella, born in Casamicciola on June 29, 1834 by Nicola Mennella and Sirabella Carolina. He was Titular Bishop of Mennith and Auxiliary Bishop Di Nicola, Bishop of Ischia.
He died in Casamicciola July 30, 1883.

Monsignor Giovanni Onorato Carcaterra, OFM, was born in Forio on February 11, 1871 by Vincenzo Carcaterra and Raffaela Capuano.
He was Custodian of the Holy Jerusalem, then titular Bishop of Ipso.
He died in Grumo Nevano on March 14, 1940.

In 1902, after thirty-one years of teaching and spiritual guidance seminar held in Ischia, Giovanni Regine was appointed Bishop of Nicastro. Interest that important diocese for sixteen years, leaving an indelible mark among the people of Calabria for the tireless pastoral activity, the ceaseless industry, social initiatives (especially in the earthquake that struck the Calabria in 1908) and the Government of Church (proclaimed an important Synod in 1911, the 340 decrees are collected in a book of exceptional interest ecclesiastical and theological).
During the First World War, Msgr. He was appointed Archbishop of Trani and Barletta by Pope Pius X. Monsignor Giovanni Scotti, born in Forio on March 18, 1874 by Salvatore Scotti and Caterina Mattera, only 22 years laurel in sacred theology and the year after he graduated in Utroque jure.
Deep knowledge of the Bible published in the volume of biblical comment that had the honor of most editions. In 1918 he was promoted to Archbishop of Rossano where he worked among the youth of Catholic Action, and faced the painful social problems and economic renewal of life in the country. He died in Procida on October 16, 1930.

 Prof. Mennella Cristofaro born in Ischia on February 17, 1907, crossed the courses of studies very quickly, majoring in physical and mathematical sciences. He was appointed, in 1951, Director of the Geophysical island of Ischia by the Central Bureau of Meteorology and Environment. One of his works accepted into the university was "Il Clima d’Italia". Mennella was a member of the Italian Astronomical Society, of the Geophysics and Meteorology, of the Italian Geographic Doctors Association of Italian hydroclimatology, the Italian Society for the Advancement Science and Society of Astronautics Italian. Died on January 25, 1976.

Vincenzo Telese born in Ischia on February 19, 1907. In 1928 he took over the representation of the Bank of America and Italy, in 1930, was the owner and director of the Office of Forestiero established to contribute to the development of natural resources and the development of tourism and spas of the island.
Since 1936 to 1946 he fulfilled the office of Justice of the Peace of Ischia, in 1946 he became Mayor of Ischia. Giuseppe D'Ascia, author of the monumental and encyclopedic history of the island of Ischia (1867), was born in Forio on February 23, 1822. Luigi Patalano, writer, politician and poet, was born in Forio in 1869. He began his classical studies and after graIn 1890 he founded and directed the magazine Pro Patria. Political and scientific magazine.
