Ischia riding
After the Tour of Italy last year, Ischia is preparing to entertain islanders and tourists with the Marathon Ischia 100: a sporting event that will put the spotlight on the streets of Ischia exclusively dedicated to this event then stopping traffic to any other means not a bike!
The beautiful green island will see lovers cyclists travel the roads of the island with stops and preset tours.
This event could shed some light on the possibility of a cycling tourism in Ischia that unfortunately does not have bike lanes.
Improving is synonymous with innovation and innovating for a cross bike on the island is undoubtedly a plus point for Ischia that in this aspect is still 'virgin'.
There are many paths that lend themselves to this type of tourism that cross the roads of the island in the midst of breathtaking scenery and unique scenarios that only Ischia can offer.
Many are thinking that the island is too small and exclusively of maritime vocation to make cycling, but it is not true.
Of course, the sea and the cliffs are a predominant aspect but there is also an island with flattened paths, headlands, pine forests, and mountains that reach up to Mount Epomeo even with nerve pathways particularly suited to the adventures of asphalt cyclists, in short bikes to all tastes.
The Marathon is a sporting event where the first element is the long distance. A Marathon on an island of just 46 square miles sets aside surprises that can create “Ischia 100Km”. In fact, with the proposed route, our island amazes and enchants lovers who will face a tough challenge. But the advantage, that every effort will restore the sport is that the scenery is absolutely incomparable!
On the occasion, Ischia stops the time and as has already happened with the II stage of the Tour of Italy last spring, the streets only welcome cyclists and events that will enhance the value of sport and the outdoors. In fact, the Marathon of the island of Ischia, valid stage for the circuit "Scudetto Campano 2014", was born under the brand “Enjoy Ischia” a program of environmental initiatives organized by the Municipality of Ischia to enhance the “green” identity of Ischia.
The first Marathon of the island of Ischia clearly chose a striking departure in the foothills of the Aragonese Castle in the village of Ischia Ponte. The first 10 km will wind along a halley, in this case it will travel at a controlled pace 2 laps of a track 5 km long. At the end of the second lap around there will be street racing, with which you will have to make seriously with slopes that fluctuate between 5 and 16%. The first ascent (Gran Premio della Montagna) is about 8 km long, through narrow streets but from the background landscape of particular beauty, to the summit in the village of Fontana (Serrara Fontana).
After conquering the summit shall start immediately the dizzying descent, with frequent changes of direction and repeated raises, but wonderful postcards for those who ride in the name of enjoying the scenery. The first part of this long downhill ends at the promenade of Forio, which immediately leads to the foot of Cavallaro, about 1.5 km with average gradients of around 10%. Afterwards it will return to the plain on the seafront, between the town of Lacco Ameno and the town of Casamicciola, about 2.5 km away dishes which will be interrupted by a new incline at Castiglioni almost 2 km, but with more gentle slopes. Waterfront that in 2013 was covered from World Tour teams participating in the Tour of Italy in the second stage of the tour, the team time trial, in which it was taken the first reference clock.
Then another short breath before tackling the ascent of the external variant 1.5 km regular slope between 5 and 6% at the end of which, will begin the final ascent to the GPM for those who will point to the short and 2 more for those who opt for longest one.
After the second or third round, the brow of the external variant instead of proceeding to deal with the GPM as in the other rounds, it will have to get out of SS 270 turning left, where after a short descent will attach the last tear of the day, which will lead cyclists at the end of the test.
The organizers, attentive to the needs of the participants, have provided a logistic area. The village of Ischia 100 will be opened in the afternoon on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 will remain open, with the booths of the sponsors who will exhibit their materials, and Sunday 11 until early afternoon (until the end of the festivities after the race).
The village will be divided into three areas, two outdoor and one indoor. The outdoor areas will be the ideal location for the exhibition stands of the various sponsors of the event.
The indoor area, one typical of the Palazzetto dello Sport of Fondobosso, will be the reference point for the withdrawal of race packages and chip, which is essential to be able to compete, and will also be the place where the prize giving, the pasta party and where athletes can take advantage of the showers. In fact, the village will also be the culmination of the initiative.
