Stars, set and anglers
It was 1960 and even the quiet fishing village on the southern side of the island began to be a tourist destination. An ideal landing place for the yachts of characters seeking tranquility. Far from the paparazzi just launched from the “Dolce Vita”, Sant’Angelo guaranteed freedom of stay even to the top-end characters, with crowds of fans: Gina Lollobrigida, Mina, Liz Taylor and Richard Burton, at the beginning of their dazzling love story. There was a white piano in the square below the tower on the summer nights of the 1980s.
The music accompanied the end of the days of the community of Santangiolesi and vacationers. A climate of familiarity that also took VIPs, while Sant’Angelo changed skin and became the center of the Ischian nightlife. And the place of record musical events. The concert by Renzo Arbore with the Italian Orchestra in front of a crowded square and the sea full of boats was unforgettable. Lucio Dalla was another secret and passionate visitor. And then Fred Bongusto, Peppino di Capri, all the singers at the top of the charts ... Over the decades, the characteristic fishing village has consolidated its “mission”: to safeguard the well-being of its guests and make everyone feel at home. It also succeeded with Angela Merkel, in love with Sant’Angelo long before her appointment as chancellor. But it was impossible for the most powerful woman in the world to escape paparazzi.
